Elon Musk Warns of Dangers of Artificial Intelligence at US Senate Tech CEO Summit
During a closed-door session with US senators, Elon Musk expressed his views on artificial intelligence, describing it as a two-sided tool. He acknowledged its potential for immense benefits but also raised concerns about potential risks to society. The session, attended by over 20 leaders from the technology and civil society sectors, was centered around discussions on AI. Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X (formerly known as Twitter), was among the participants.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc., told senators that they should not worry about things like self-driving cars, but instead should focus on what he called deeper artificial intelligence, a person in the room said. Deep AI is an obvious reference to deep learning, a type of artificial intelligence that teaches computers to process data in a way that mimics the human brain.
Musk, who spoke bluntly, specifically expressed concern about data centers so powerful and large that they can be seen from space, and whose level of intelligence is currently difficult to understand, the person said.
Among the ventures launched by Musk, the richest person in the world, is the artificial intelligence company xAI.
From China, Musk recounted his earlier trip to the country and said he raised the risks of deep artificial intelligence and superintelligence with senior officials there.
